The Happy Birthday Season

I have two times of the year that are particularly busy, the first is June and the second is the mid-August until the end of September. I swear a good portion of the people I know are born in these three months, which means a lot of card making.

I always make my cards. I first started making cards for a purely non-creative reason. I used to stand in the card aisle of Shoppers or in a Hallmark and spend honestly like 45 minutes trying to pick a card, and none could ever convey what I wanted. It was taxing and I usually ended up picking one out of frustration (my apologies family and friends if you received one of these frustration cards…)Honestly, I don’t have that kind of time to spend debating cards, I would rather spend it making one (a therapeutic, creative and useful way to spend your time!).

I have loved the Confetti line from Crate Paper for a while, such cute whimsy birthday themed designs. So I bought one of Gossamer Blue’s kits (I can’t remember which one…)that predominately featured products from that line as I know a bunch of folks with their birthdays coming up and I though the line would be perfect for cards.

So I made 3 cards from the set thus far and decided to share….

For this card I used scraps for the background and the polka dot stripe, and a layer of gold washi over the stripe. The tag is from American Crafts to which I added the cupcake from the Confetti line, some scrap paper and enamel dot embellishments and I finished it by gluing some ribbon to the underside. The beautiful gold Celebrate Thicker is from the Confetti line as well. I matted this all onto a gold-rimmed white card that I got from Michaels (I used these as the base for all of the cards)

For the second card, I cut a series of banner strips from some of the Confetti papers and some of the  other scraps I had around. I added a cream strip to the top and ran some gold washi across. The Party thicker is from the Confetti line as is the smaller gold banner. The green banner is from Basic Grey and I typed “Let’s” and glued it to the banner. I finished the card with some gold dots dabbed on from stickles.

And for the last card, I used the beautiful medallion paper from the Confetti line (not sure if that’s what it’s called?) for the background and added a contrasting scrap strip. The Happy letter Thickers, the medallion and the banner are all from the confetti line as well. The banner originally had a different centre. I punched the kraft circle and glued it to the medallion then added “19” in Thickers (this was for a 19th Birthday).

I was so excited to use these products and was so happy with how they turned out, I hope the recipients enjoyed them too. Now back to my birthday cake coma…
